News - Exhibition & North Somerset Arts Week

1st May - 31 May 2007

Three very different artists will be exhibiting here at Gallery 370 for the whole of May, which includes the famous North Somerset Arts Week (NSAW), which takes place between Friday 4 May and Sunday 13 May 2007.

The Artists

The three local artists, Robyn Coetzee, Lizzie Tucker & Susan Krekorian will share a space in the gallery and during the arts week will be available on certain days if you would like to meet and talk to them personally (please phone the gallery to check when they will be here to avoid disappointment).

Robyn Coetzee - Metal Artist

Robyn, is a regular here at the gallery as she designs and hand makes beautiful fused glass jewellery, which can be found on sale continually.

This exhibition of brand new works, sees Robyn make a departure from glass into using Metal. The Resin on metal – Butterfly Series was Influenced by fused glass and enamelling.

Robyn uses cold resin to capture photographic butterfly images against beautiful backgrounds created by rusting metal. The colours of the metal and the butterfly wings complement each other and an alluring contrast is created between the solid weight of the metal and the ethereal floating wings.

Before traveling, please check this website for normal gallery opening times & NSAW opening times.

LIzzie Tucker - Mosaic Artist

LIzzie is another regular here at the gallery but again brand new works will be exhibited. On display in the gallery currently are a wide range of mosiac based art pieces which includes place mats, jewellery, bowls and much more.

Lizzie studied art and ceramics at college and has always been interested in form and colour. She stumbled across mosaics a few years ago & became fascinated by the creation of a picture from hundreds of tiny bits of glass or ceramics.

The colours are bright and vibrant and she finds the natural world provides endless beautiful patterns. Lizzie says “the challenge for me is to transfer a design on paper into a mosaic that not only captures the movement of the subject, but also a balanced composition, which is sometimes quite hard with the overpowering colour of glass.

Susan Krekorian - Textile Artist

Textiles and art have, from childhood, always been a part of Sue's life. Creativity has been a strong drive, tempered by changing life circumstances and demands.

Sue studied embroidered textiles for City and Guilds qualifications in Bristol, which gave her the confidence to develop her own designs into finished products .

Magpie-like, she has enjoyed acquiring different textile skills and using them traditionally, as well as exploring their use with alternative materials and applications to produce 3-dimensional objects and wall art. Thus, as well as stitched textiles, her body of work includes, for example, hand-made felt and rag-rugging.

Colour and texture are important components of her designs, and inspiration comes from varied sources, including the sea, the natural world, historic buildings and Indian and Middle Eastern textile traditions. As well as producing her own work, Sue enjoys encouraging the creativity of others: she has facilitated a number of Arts Projects in local Primary and Secondary Schools, and also run workshops for adults.
